Roman Shades in the Kitchen

The bay window in our kitchen is on the radar.  In the 15 years we have lived here, these windows haven't seen a stitch of fabric.  For so long I really liked bare windows - so bare they remain.  The time has come to change this though and I'm planning to make flat Roman shades for the space.  They are easy to make and the fabric cost will be minimal, but the end result will be will so worth it.

The plan is to paint the walls BM, Gray Owl and to replace the cabinet to the right of the window with open shelving.

I am was considering this fabric, but it keeps showing up on google ads and I am already growing tired of it.  So, now I just need to find a fabric that can stand the test of time.

    i love the one from a well dressed home- i can see you with something like that. what about that greek key fabric you used on your ottoman? or that dalmation looking speckled one? that might be kind of fun, too. i like the one you have been eyeing but i am with you- if i kept seeing it in adds it would make me lose interest.

    Thanks for all the inspiration Rene. I'm planning a Roman blind in my half bath. Do you have a tutorial on making the flat blind?

    I'm a huge fan of flat roman shades. I had them made for our last two houses and am so sorry I didn't bring them with me. Can't wait to see what you do with that pretty kitchen window of yours!

    I have a "faux Roman" in my kitchen and just love it. I do like the fabric you have chosen and if you love it don't worry about the exposure, it's just us bloggers who will know...!

    Love simple roman shades at kitchen windows, a great way to bring in some color and pattern! I love mine, though if I were to make them again I'd forgo attempting to make them functional. Making the two roman shades in my home is the only project to date that reduced me to TEARS!!!! Not a pretty sight! Janell

    Beautiful inspiration pics! I'm with Janell, if you don't need them to actually function, I'd make them more of a faux roman. Lining them up perfect so that they function properly and line up patternwise can be really frustrating. Can't wait to see what fabric you pick.

    I love the look of those, Rene. All of the inspiration photos are so pretty. Go for the fabric that makes you happiest. You will see it everyday and you can always switch it up a few years from now. Excited to see what you choose.

    Oh and I feel you on seeing a pattern a lot and then getting tired of it. Thats all I see now is fabric.com ads with the fabrics I have been looking at! I haven't gotten tired yet, but one more image may puch me over;)

    Beautiful inspirations, I love the first orange fabric you showed. I am loving orange right now. I definitely think finding the right fabric is hard....I've been stalking ebay lately for fabric.

    Love your kitchen, Rene!! It is so hard to pick a fabric, but I know you'll make the perfect choice!! I love seeing new inspiration photos and there are so many here that I haven't seen before. Loving the traditional home one!! Oh, and I was pleasantly surprised to see mine!! :)

    I've been contemplating roman shades for the window about my kitchen sink. I'm thinking I'd like to do them in burlap, but I'm not sure how that's going to work. Hmm.

    Oh yes... I love a little fabric in the kitchen.. :-) It goes a long way to soften a space when it's packed with so many hard surfaces. LOVED the assortment you showed.. It's going to look fabulous!
