Traditional Home
The bay window in our kitchen is on the radar. In the 15 years we have lived here, these windows haven't seen a stitch of fabric. For so long I really liked bare windows - so bare they remain. The time has come to change this though and I'm planning to make flat Roman shades for the space. They are easy to make and the fabric cost will be minimal, but the end result will be will so worth it.

The plan is to paint the walls BM, Gray Owl and to replace the cabinet to the right of the window with open shelving.
Let's have a look at some inspiration photos.

Stay tuned.
i love the one from a well dressed home- i can see you with something like that. what about that greek key fabric you used on your ottoman? or that dalmation looking speckled one? that might be kind of fun, too. i like the one you have been eyeing but i am with you- if i kept seeing it in adds it would make me lose interest.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the inspiration Rene. I'm planning a Roman blind in my half bath. Do you have a tutorial on making the flat blind?
ReplyDeleteThe hardest part is finding the right fabric...
Love the inspirations. I am in the middle of making a roman shade. I need to finish it!
ReplyDeleteYou must be a mind-reader because an easy Roman shade tutorial is just what I was needing right now! Love Fran's shade!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great idea for your window. Isn't it funny how our tastes change over the years? But change keeps things interesting. Can't wait to see what fabric you pick out!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the orange - a delightful pop of colour!
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge fan of flat roman shades. I had them made for our last two houses and am so sorry I didn't bring them with me. Can't wait to see what you do with that pretty kitchen window of yours!
ReplyDeleteI have a "faux Roman" in my kitchen and just love it. I do like the fabric you have chosen and if you love it don't worry about the exposure, it's just us bloggers who will know...!

I love a good roman shade. I really like the fabric in the first pic.
ReplyDeleteLove simple roman shades at kitchen windows, a great way to bring in some color and pattern! I love mine, though if I were to make them again I'd forgo attempting to make them functional. Making the two roman shades in my home is the only project to date that reduced me to TEARS!!!! Not a pretty sight! Janell
ReplyDeleteBeautiful inspiration pics! I'm with Janell, if you don't need them to actually function, I'd make them more of a faux roman. Lining them up perfect so that they function properly and line up patternwise can be really frustrating. Can't wait to see what fabric you pick.
ReplyDeleteI love the look of those, Rene. All of the inspiration photos are so pretty. Go for the fabric that makes you happiest. You will see it everyday and you can always switch it up a few years from now. Excited to see what you choose.
ReplyDeleteI love that orange window treatment......good luck with your choice!
ReplyDeleteJanell is so funny! I need some in my kitchen too! Are you gonna make yours functional?
ReplyDeleteOh and I feel you on seeing a pattern a lot and then getting tired of it. Thats all I see now is fabric.com ads with the fabrics I have been looking at! I haven't gotten tired yet, but one more image may puch me over;)
Beautiful inspirations, I love the first orange fabric you showed. I am loving orange right now. I definitely think finding the right fabric is hard....I've been stalking ebay lately for fabric.
ReplyDeleteYour bare window is so bright and beautiful. I don't blame you for waiting so long to add a window treatment. I know whatever you decide it will be great!
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty post, I can't wait to see how your window turns out, good luck!
ReplyDeleteI'm lovin' this ( insert voice inflection)
ReplyDeleteso crisp and formal, yet fun
Perfect timing! I too have loved my bare kitchen windows for 14 years, and am finally tired of them...too much fabulous inspiration on the blogosphere! I can't wait to see which fabric you choose!
ReplyDeleteI'm in the same situation I have had a bare kitchen window for almost 5 years. I think I want to change that too. I could really use the tutorial on how to do this.
ReplyDeleteI love roman shades, especially with a beautiful trim across the bottom. They are versatile and work in every decor. Go for it!! Check out my new blog when you have a chance! Thanks!
ReplyDeletePaula
I think that will look great. Love the gray and especially with either black and white [can't go wrong] or another color! Can't wait to see what you pick.
ReplyDeleteSherry
Can't wait to see the end product. Plenty of great inspiration.
ReplyDeleteThey no doubt will look great!

I love Fran's shade! Good luck with your decision:)
ReplyDeleteLove your kitchen, Rene!! It is so hard to pick a fabric, but I know you'll make the perfect choice!! I love seeing new inspiration photos and there are so many here that I haven't seen before. Loving the traditional home one!! Oh, and I was pleasantly surprised to see mine!! :)
ReplyDeleteI've been down the
ReplyDeletesame path and I have
to say, I LOVE the
flat roman shades.
In the winter I always
draw them down for a
cozy feeling. Have fun
choosing your perfect
fabric!

I've been contemplating roman shades for the window about my kitchen sink. I'm thinking I'd like to do them in burlap, but I'm not sure how that's going to work. Hmm.
ReplyDeleteThanks for more inspiration!
Oh yes... I love a little fabric in the kitchen.. :-) It goes a long way to soften a space when it's packed with so many hard surfaces. LOVED the assortment you showed.. It's going to look fabulous!
ReplyDeleteWarm blessings,
Spencer

Well this is a timely post, as I also want to do roman shades on my kitchen window. Isn't that blogland for you? Anxious to see what you pick!
ReplyDeleteCamille
I love me a good Roman shade in the kitchen. A little punch of color and style, but still so classic and clean. I'm excited to see what you decide on! And yippee for open shelving!
ReplyDeleteRene-
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for visiting my blog, and leaving me such a sweet comment :) MMS's tutorial IS totally awesome, and the wingback slip was technically my second slipcover (the first was a very, very simple slip for my dining chairs) but count the wingback as my first.
But more importantly, why haven't I come across your amazing blog before?!?!?! I am in heaven going through all your gorgeous posts!!! I am so now a follower :D

Can't wait to see what you do! I love Roman shades and all the ones you shared are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, it would add a lot of personality to this pretty white kitchen!
ReplyDeleteRomans are great because they add so much without blocking the view.
It sounds like you have some fun changes ahead! I can't wait to see what you come up with, your inspiration photos are lovely!
