How I Cleaned My Jute Rug in Time For the Holidays & A Bissell Giveaway!!!

Thursday, December 11, 2014

Holiday decorating, for me, includes much more than the decorating itself.  I've mentioned before how I like to clean all surfaces before I begin dragging in the greenery and pulling the boxes down from the attic.  I try to make the holidays as relaxing as possible and in order for me to fully relax, the house must be in order.  I'm just kookie that way.  Mr. and I decided years ago to invest in a Bissell upright carpet cleaner and never looked back.

Over Thanksgiving our dog, Mattie Gray had some "issues" on our jute rug in the family room.  I had two options.  Either replace the rug or try to clean it knowing that if something horrible happened in the cleaning process, I was going to replace the rug anyway.  Have you ever cleaned a jute rug?  I've tried it one other time with my Bissell and it worked perfectly, so I felt good about trying it again. *I'm not encouraging you to clean your jute rug and then hate me if it messes up.  Please test an area before cleaning your entire rug.  We needed a rug in our family room and the holiday season was not the time to go rug shopping if you know what I mean.  So clean it I did.

The process was simple, I moved all of the furniture into the dining room, turned the heat up in the house, and about fifteen minutes later I had a clean rug.  Easy!  It was completely dry by the evening and smelled great - no more weird factory smell.  Now Bissell upright cleaning formulas include Scotchguard Protector so you can protect your carpets from being stained in the future. The stain protecting substance pushes liquids away from the base of the carpet fibers.  This means if you have a spill, the liquid will stay on the surface longer so you have time to clean it up before the carpet is seriously damaged.

Bissell is giving away 3 Upright Cleaning Machines.  Trust me, you will love being able to clean your carpets and rugs yourself.

To enter the giveaway:

1.  Visit the Bissell landing page to check out your new cleaning machine.
2.  Come back here and leave a comment stating how the Bissell Upright Deep Cleaning Machine with Scotchguard Protector Carpet Cleaning Solution would make your life easier.

Bissell will randomly select three winners from the comments found on participating blogs.

Bissell will announce the winners Monday, January 5th, and the winners will be notified through a response to comments. You will have 5 business days (by 01/12/15) to submit your email address and claim your prize.

Good luck!

  1. I t would be such a help against the salt and the winter stuff that comes in the house and gets traipsed across the floor and carpeting and then mats it all into the carpeting.

    1. We have the Pro-heat Pro-tech. We bought it several years ago. It looks most similar to the Pro-heat Healthy Home. I love that we can also clean upholstery with it.

  6. We have an older dog, and find that we are cleaning our carpets more often. My children love to paint in our carpeted playroom and it would be nice to not worry about cleaning the carpet while they are being creative.

  10. Hi Rene!
This post came just in time! Our beloved dog had an accident the other day when we were out of town on the EXACT same rug as yours! I spot cleaned it, but It appeared to change the color a bit? I want to clean the whole rug (I have a Bissel also) but always wondered if the water from the steam would damage my wood floors? That is my only hesitation. Did you use anything underneath the sisal to protect your floors? Any input would be greatly appreciated;) Thanks!

    1. I was afraid of that too and no, I did not put anything under the rug to protect it. The pad and floor never got damp from the cleaner either. That was just "my" experience.

  11. You would not believe how many paper bits, graphite and charcoal dust, dried bits of paint are embedded in the rug under my drafting table. Not to mention the foot stalking pup sharing her fur with the world. That Bissel sounds like a dream.

  21. With three boys (four including my husband) tracking in a lot of dirty snow during the winter months, I could really use for our living room carpet!!

  22. I have been considering purchasing a steam carpet cleaner but can never seem to decide which one is best so I can never commit. I do not have pets but do have 6 grandkids. Even though I have the "take your shoes off at the door " rule, the living room carpet still seems to get dirty. Where do these mystery stains come from anyway, ugh. Thanks for the opportunity to win a Bissell cleaner and the Scotch protection would be awesome.

  24. We just got a new puppy, and now that we've had her a couple of months, the carpets seriously need to be cleaned, if you know what I mean. I also have 2 boys that look like pigpen with a dust cloud following behind them most of the time. It would be lovely to be able to clean my carpets whenever I need to! Hope I win!!

  27. I have an old Bissell carpet cleaner (maybe 30 years old) which I pull out at least twice a year to give the carpets a good cleaning. I would surely love to have a new upright model. (I'm also 30 years older.) Jo @ Let's Face the Music

  28. We have three kids. Cleaning carpets on your hands and knees is hard. Having a Bissel carpet cleaner would help with cleaning quicker and being able to spend time with my kids!

  29. This would make our lives so much easier since right now I use a dish rag and soap to try and get out stains. It takes so long and does not do a great job. I have Three littles and they are constantly having "accidents" This would ease my stress of worrying about all the messes they make. This machine looks amazing and would clean up all the messes we have and keep our carpet looking clean!

  30. A Bissell Upright Carpet Cleaner would make my life easier because I own a smaller version of a Bissell now but it does not come with attachments and with a dog and a 3 year old I need attachments. I have always loved Bissell products and cleaning solutions.

  31. I have 3 kids, the youngest of whom is a 5YO boy. And since Mark Twain called a little boy "a noise with dirt on it" -- well, I could really use this Bissell Upright Carpet cleaner!

  33. Oh my gosh, I have 1, 2 and a 4 year old. To say my carpets take a beating, is an understatement. We borrow my mother in law's Bissell on occasion, but I'd love to have one of our own. We started potty training next month. Need I say more? ;)
