Photographs: Famous People in Decor

The other day I texted the last image to our oldest child knowing what his reaction would be.  Of course it was, "Yes please".  This video has played in our house more times than the daily news and he can recite the the motivational speeches by heart.  You might think that is kinda weird, but I say, whatever motivates you sweetie.  It got me thinking about the famous faces we often see in decor - not posters taped to walls, but images thoughtfully incorporated in the design.  I think there is a place for it.  Do you?

Better yet, if you were going to hang a picture of a famous person (style icon, political figure, or athlete) in your home, who would it be?

  1. Hola
Very interesting post! Sometimes I feel as though Marilyn Monroe's image is exploited, but not here. We have a HOPE poster with Obama on it + an old Time magazine cover with the baseball great, Stan Musial. I bought a B+W post card of the cast of the movie The Misfits (speaking of Marilyn), + it would be awesome, framed.

  2. Like this post, Rene. I love the idea of surrounding yourself by inspiration whether it's quotes, icons, etc. My husband loves politics and admires JFK. We have a magnet of him on our fridge. I'd like to find a cool black and white photo of him to hang in his office. My icon is Mother Theresa and I had a portrait commisioned of her by an artist who worked with her in India. It hangs in our dining room and I love it. I'm reminded of her service and humility every day!

  3. I got a box of Presidential portraits at a garage sale a couple years back. They are so cool looking, but I'm not sure if I'm brave enough to stick them on my wall.

If I had a classy Jackie O. picture, I would hang her up in a heart beat!

    1. Presidents could be fun in the right place. I agree that Jackie O. would be decor worthy. The image over the fireplace isn't my favorite image of her.

  4. I'd definitely have to frame Einstein and put him in my study--solely for the purpose of inspiration. Question though, who is the celebrity in the third picture (bathtub)? I think it's nicely crafted into the design. The only thing I'd change are maybe the curtains. IMO it needs more of a pop--some contrast--because the blue isn't popping quite enough.

    1. Suzan,

That is Audrey Hepburn. Einstein is quite an inspiration!

  5. I adore that last image. I think these are all wonderful. Myself...I have a few black and whites of Jean Harlow up and one of Joan Crawford swimming with her dachshunds.

  6. I would definitely hang pictures of Audrey Hepburn - such a style icon. I would also include her quote about Laughter:

I love people who make me laugh.
I honestly think it is the thing I live most, to laugh.
It cures a multitude of ills.
It's probably the most important thing in a person.

  7. I love seeing something so unexpected. I chuckle every time that I walk into Summerhouse because they have framed pictures with famous people in them sprinkled throughout the store.

    1. Funny you say that Suzy because I thought of Summer House when I was writing this post.
