Dining Room Chairs, Check

Sunday, November 14, 2010

For so long, I looked for the right chairs for our dining room.  I have been so inspired by all of the pretty white dining room chairs.  Last week I showed you the chairs that "we" found and the fabric.

Yesterday morning, I recovered the last seat and Mr. tightened everything that was loose.  We also added chairs pads to the feet and now they are like new.

after

Even though the side chairs and end chairs are slightly different styles, a coat of white paint and a new fabric tie them all together.  To paint the chairs, I first sanded them and wiped them clean with a damp cloth.  I used 2 coats of Valspar spray primer.  Finally, I used 2 coats of Valspar glossy white. I highly recommend purchasing a large piece of plastic for projects like these.  A 10x 20 sheet was under $3 and worth every penny.

Now the dining room looks like a sunny garden room.  The nice thing is that now matter the season, there is a laurel hedge just outside the double windows.  I love looking out and seeing green.  Also, I was considering painting the wall below the chair rail white, but I'm holding off for now.  The white chairs made such a difference in the room that it may not be necessary - and anything to save me some work.

  1. That's so exciting! They make such a huge difference. I love the fabric you chose. It looks so fresh. Also, your ginger jar is amazing. Did you paint it like I did with mine, or did you just find it like that?

  4. Your chairs are gorgeous, Rene! You did a wonderful job and the fabric is beautiful. Your dining room has such an open and airy feel. It is a nice garden room with a touch of bling on your ceiling. The chandlier is stunning! I also, like you, have to see green outside no matter what the season. You have a very classy and elegant style.

  13. Rene, your chairs look fantastic! I did the same thing....painted some older chairs white (not really a style I like) and I like them so much better. I have even mixed them with some antique chairs (stained) around the table and they look great. We already had painted below the chairrail white, and I do love it. Yours are fabulous - such a cheery room! Linda

  14. Oh my, the chairs turned out so wonderful! I have chairs that I need to do the exact same thing to. So you'd recommend spray painting then? I wasn't sure if I was going to spray or brush. I need to get one of those spray paint guns though.

I know that question to paint under the chair rail is always a tough one! After sleeping on it...we decided to go for it :)
