The Blue Room Reveal

Monday, August 9, 2010

Hey everybody.  I hope you all had a great weekend.  Boy has this ever been a busy one...in a good way.  We are so happy with the way the floors turned out and to keep this post from being too long, I am breaking it down into two posts.  By the way, are you tired of hearing about the floors?  I am.

I must admit, painting hardwood floors felt a little sacrilegious, but this space was converted from attic storage into living space.  As I have said before, the floors were scratched, dented, and orange.  Eventually they will be refinished, but we wanted to enjoy them now.  So for the last week, this has been my mission.  The only thing left to do is add the shoe molding.

I can honestly say that as hard as this little project was, it was so worth it.  The rooms not only look cleaner, but they are so much brighter and feel larger now.

I really like the contrast of the dark furniture on the white floors.

Check in tomorrow to see the green room which is my personal favorite.
By the way, last week, I picked up the ottoman and love it.  Yesterday someone bought the sofa so we now have ourselves an Ektorp.  Things are falling into place...

  8. Looks fantastic! What a difference the white paint makes? I have been seriously thinking about painting my front rooms hard wood floors white since you took on this venture of painting your children's room white. I will admit that I am so nervous that it won't come out right or then again what if it just doesn't look right? It is a high traffic walk way and I wonder if white would show every piece of dirt or the paint would wear quickly? Oh I could go on and on. I can't wait to see the green room.

  14. I love how they look all fresh and bright; they would also look good in a "farmhouse style" with real braided or hooked rugs and simple antique beds. I have been thinking about that look a lot lately after going to the President Coolidge Homestead while in Vermont!

  15. Janet, You are right. Painted floors could go either direction. I do have rugs for the rooms, but we have to wait a few days before we can put them down.

Renee - it's wonderful. Can you give us a bit of a play by play. I'm paining a bedroom upstairs with white floors - what kind of paint - gloss, semi, enamel?? - did you sand between coats? did you wash the floor after you sanded. how did you apply the poly? Thanks for your help.

  37. Thank Jo, if you read the links that I have provided, you will find the steps that I took there. The key is to follow the directions on the paint and poly labels.

  40. LOVE both rooms! I'm so glad you did this. It just shows that there is nothing to be afraid in design. The dresser in the green room with the 4th and 5th painted on it is so cool!

Sorry I'm late commenting. I'm still trying to adjust to the boys being in school. Hopefully I can have a post for tomorrow;-)
