The Plate Wall Has Begun

Monday, December 7, 2009

You have all seen this picture of our kitchen table & banquette and the before and after chair re-do.   You may even recall my dream of a plate wall.   Well, I have a confession to make.  Color scares me.  I love color in pictures and in other people's homes, but when it comes to our home I wimp out.  After careful consideration I decided to go with white plates for the plate wall.  Now, this is a pretty large wall and I have only begun the collection, but let me say that the Salvation Army and the Re-store will be seeing a lot more of me in the future.

Future plans include a lighter color on the walls (hubby cover your ears) and slip covers for the seats of the chairs.  I would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions.

  1. Just lovely! Are you sure about another color on the wall? I really like the color you currently have - very serene!

  2. Thanks for that. Funny how the color changes during the day. The before and after pics look like two totally different colors.

  4. Ack...I love your new plate wall! I've totally been thinking of doing this too. However my dining room has red walls, so not sure. Oh, and I love those drum chandeliers...if you don't mind me asking, where did you get those? Love your blog BTW!

  5. Jane, good luck with your plate wall. The drums came from Uttermost. Our kitchen had recessed (can) lights only and we used a can adapter to hang the drums. Easy!

  6. You nailed this dead on. I don't think you need to change anything. This is soo perfect the way it is. Great job. Thanks for sharing. Come check my transformation out & let me know what you think.

  7. It looks lovely. My question: What did you do w/the STUFF? photos, stuff on the shelves you took down............that's my big issue around here.

  8. Donna,
The pictures were updated and hung around the corner still in the kitchen. Can't live without pics of family. The other stuff is either packed away in the attic awaiting their next adventure or they have found a place on the built-ins. I know about "stuff" though. Sometimes editing is a good thing.

  9. ohmygosh, i LOVE the way this space turned out. i, too, thought the after pictures were a completely different color (it looks sort of like the color that's on your television cabinet in your playroom -- which i think would be really nice!) streamlined, chic, but with depth!

i vote no to the slipcovers. i like the chairs the way they are. (but what's the random tree thing in the corner?)

  10. Kelly, your comment cracked me up! That random tree thing was a branch covered in snowflakes before Christmas. It has been gone. Thanks for the laugh.
